Synopsis:
A section of the old Olympia playhouse façade near David Dale Gallery is sandblasted by the artist in an attempt to refresh the familiar site.
Description:
Glasgow-based Desmond Church will sandblast a circular area of brickwork on the façade of the Old Olympia Playhouse, Bridgeton. Church habitually creates both suggested and realized proposals for small interventions into the world, which offers a beguiling humour, and using wit to offer us a way into seeing the world afresh in more vivid and complex terms.

Synopsis:
Influenced by the life of Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite and instigator of various prizes, as well as the notion of the Renaissance Man and general themes of heroism and exploration, yet unable to understand nor do justice to such topics, Bridges instead makes nice little pieces of embroidery and miniature landscapes constructed from a combination of found materials and modeling materials. This new work depicts landscapes, which, via their visual relationship to craft and their incongruous methods of presentation, appear to allude to colonialism and the occult.

Concrete benches offer weary visitors an opportunity to rest. Enticing the viewer with sound and light, which intensifies to a crescendo as they approach.
Description:
Three concrete benches offer weary visitors an opportunity to rest. These objects entice the viewer with sound and light, which intensifies to a crescendo as they approach and sit. Once the viewer is seated, they become ‘in’ the work, and it is complete. These active structures installed in transitory spaces spark interaction and dialogue between the audience, inviting them to become part of the piece and process. Continuing the artists’ ongoing investigation of human behaviour when in front of an artwork, the new work is typically sympathetic to its surroundings and playfully manipulative of its audience.

A large-scale collage, composed of five interlinking images of the sky. This piece explores ideas of universal connections in everyday mundane existence.

The work is situated on the Broomielaw opposite The Ferry on an area of overgrown grassland.

Synopsis:
Located at 236 Broomielaw, opposite The Renfrew Ferry. The installation consists of several heavily distorted street lamps which form a fictional street. The NaePlace lights will be illuminated between 8pm and 10pm each night over the course of G.I. festival. The work will be shown later on this year in a solo exhibition for the Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine entitled "Wish you were here" contact harbourarts(at)north-ayrshire.gov.uk for more information.
Description:
This new work consists of six contorted and distorted streetlamps, inserted into wasteground to create the ghostly presence of a fictional street. The sculptures (actual steetlamps which the artist deconstructed then reassembled, and connected back to the National Grid) beam down light incessantly, illuminating little save their own broken forms.
Artist Statement:
My studio practice involves a constant re-examination and interference with the meaning we attribute to the many different objects and environments we encounter. I am interested in the human condition, I try to understand what brought us to be who we are, where we are, you know? What makes us and our understanding of ourselves and our reality? I constantly research areas such as the media, consumer culture, capitalism, history and politics, but other stuff too like social history, communities, family, sex, death, to find out what shapes how we treat each other as human beings. What shapes our boundaries. These components that come to shape our mental boundaries, how we perceive the world, end up shaping physical boundaries, such as countries and nationality. This whole notion of our mental understandings effecting the physical world is the basis for much of my work.

Artist Statement:
My works address the relationship between force and form. Force and energy make the shape of an object. They are seemingly essential to any form in this world that is subject to gravity. Consequently I am fascinated by architecture because of the technically extreme usage of materials and the aspect of the function/functionless. It is the exploration of the interrelationship between architecture, force, form and space which informs my work and has inspired the evolution of my practice to encompass both two and three dimensions.
