Atypical Root: OPEN CALL

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Public/Gallery-based artworks

THE DEADLINE FOR THIS CALL HAS PASSED

Atypical Root is an official event for, and open for the duration of, Glasgow International (16/04- 03/05/2010). This public art trail will run from the East End (David Dale gallery), along the Clyde Riverside (International Financial District) to Pacific Quay (Glasgow Science Centre), and onwards to Govan (Clydebrae Studios) and the West End (noiseforsomething gallery), also linking the GoMA and Kelvingrove Art Gallery via Glasgow Science Centre, as well as other GI events. This event is made up of 5 indoor exhibitions and numerous public artworks, installations and interventions in multiple outdoor spaces along this route. The theme for work is open, and could last the entirety of the festival or a few moments, in one or multiple spaces- all suggestions and media welcome. To view the available locations for exhibiting work, please view the Googlemap. Applicants are encouraged to walk through the trail to decide which spaces they would prefer to use before proposing a project. For more information about a specific site, please email us.

We are open to all proposals, but artists must bear in mind that the artworks will not be under constant supervision (though a lot of our spaces are fenced off), so no exhibiting diamond skulls. Public artworks must be accommodate for all eventualities. We can assist with installation and production costs where possible, but cannot provide an artists' fee for your work. If you are not insured (public liability), please notify us on application. We are managing the publicity materials, and are working towards a funded Atypical Root for GI 2012.

Please include:
  • Name and contact details
  • Proposed work (as much detail about your ideas as possible).
  • Explain how it is relevant to the themes or refers to a particular local space.
  • Approximate dimensions, duration, space required
  • If relevant, how the work is to be installed
  • Technical requirements (including what equipment you can source and what you need help in sourcing)
  • Images and/or CV if you feel this will support any proposal

Deadline for exhibiting outside Glasgow Science Centre/ BBC:
Sunday 21st February (Please contact us to find out requirements for this site)

Deadline for submissions of all other spaces:
Sunday 28th February

We will get back to you by 15th March and look forward to receiving your ideas.
